Banteay Srei – The Lady Temple of Angkor

Siem Reap

Banteay Srei, often called the Lady Temple, is one of the most exquisite monuments in the Angkor complex. Built in the 10th century and dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva, it is celebrated for its pink sandstone walls and delicate carvings, which remain remarkably well preserved.

Unlike the vast scale of Angkor Wat, Banteay Srei stands out for its intricate details and artistry. The carvings depict scenes from Hindu legends with extraordinary skill, earning the temple a reputation as the “jewel of Khmer art.” Nestled in the countryside, Banteay Srei offers a more intimate and peaceful experience away from the busier sites.
